World Whisky Day - Community Event of the Year!

We feel extremely humbled and honoured to have been chosen as the recipients of the 2022 Australia Day Community Event of the Year for Warrumbungle Shire.

A huge thanks goes out to the many friends who help to make this event such a success. This event would not be possible without them.

The following is the nomination put forward to Council for consideration:

"World Whisky Day is an annual event hosted by Genise and Brian Hollingworth at their distillery in Mendooran. Black Gate Distillery is the first warm climate distillery in NSW and was established in 2009.

The Hollingworth's have held this event for three years (2020 not included due to COVID 19) which is held in the ground of the distillery, a rustic bush setting with open fires, live band, smoked meats, camping facilities and two bars offering tastings of their award winning rum and whisky selections.

The event has gone from strength to strength attracting punters from all over Australia, many making it a regular calendar event. The event employs a large team of local staff who run the bars and supervise food preparation.

The Hollingworth's are extremely proud of their business and its locality in the small town of Mendooran and have attracted a new style of tourist that would normally have not frequented the area.

Although the distillery has won countless industry awards and accolades, Genise and Brian stay humble and true to their craft and their home town."
